HOW TO APPLY TO BE A MAGISTRATE (Part 2)

Why do you want to be a magistrate? A lawyer who is also my friend once asked me, “is it cool being a magistrate?” So I take this opportunity without answering to the questions, to cotinue what I've written before on how to apply to be a magistrate. As a general guidlines if you are really interested in becoming a magistrate, then consider 3 facts below:

Firstly, as I wrote in the first part, a magistrate is one of the officers under the Pegawai Undang-Undang (PUU) Scheme. Therefore when you fill up the SPA8 form, ask for the post of PUU and not the post of magistrate because there are no magistrates post in the SPA8 Form.

Secondly, every PUU is subjected to be transfered to any other post under the Legal and Judicial Service at any time laterally or on promotion.

Thirdly, when you apply for the Legal and Judicial Officer post usually you don't know what designation you will be given until you are called to report duty. Generally speaking, there is no direct application to be a magistrate. At least not during my time. However, times changed. Maybe nowadays you may apply directly to be a magistrate but as far as I know nowadays you only may choose between the Judiciary or the Legal side. The judiciary means the court which include magistrate and Seniour Assistant Registrar at the bottom and the legal side is under the Attorney General Chambers which includes Deputy Public Prosecutor, Legal Assistant, Federal Counsel, ect.

For your information, for the time being, there are only two post grades for majistret iaitu gred L41 dan Gred L44.

I think that's all for the time being. Darr..
